Talk:OEIS format for base b representation of constants
Offset as exponent of b in scientific representation (base b) of the constant
I would have preferred if the offset was the exponent of in the scientific representation in base of the constant, e.g.
- for A014578 Binary expansion of Thue constant (or Roth's constant). (offset would then be -2)
This way, the sequence would start at the first nonzero base digit of any constant. Unfortunately, that would mean modifying many sequences (removing the leading zeros in A014578 and changing the offset to -2)...
What would have been neat if the offset was the exponent of in the scientific representation in base of the constant is that the number of terms in the sequence would be equal to the number of significant digits and the offset would be the order of magnitude in base of the constant. — Daniel Forgues 05:01, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
Constant formatter
Note that clicking "cons" in such a sequence gives the wrong value, as it assumes decimal. I'd like to have some kind of metadata showing what base the constant is in so that this can be avoided...

- I agree. I once again advocate for the format of "optional argument(s) to keywords"(*), which would give cons(16), e.g., for base-16 sequences.
- (*) also useful for: tabf(Axxx) [row lengths], frac(Axxx) [yields the denom of the fraction], ... — M. F. Hasler 15:35, 10 January 2013 (UTC)
