Index as wiki table

Would you prefer (I would) to have the list as a wiki table, with the ratio of A-numbers on the left (all in one column)? Obviously, I won't do this unless I am given the green light by Neil Sloane to do so. — Daniel Forgues 07:13, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

Proposed changes

Daniel, That sounds like a good idea. But I would to look at the new version before it becomes permanent. Can you do a draft of the new version?

Thanks for suggesting this.

Of course this Index to Fractions is very old, and needs to be up-dated. Maybe with the new format it will get more attention.

Neil

I will do it in the subpage Index to fractions in OEIS/Table, so we will have both versions to compare. — Daniel Forgues 07:38, 26 June 2012 (UTC)

Enclosing the sequences within braces

What about enclosing the sequences within braces, e.g.

 • {0, 1, 0, 1/3, 0, 2/15, 0, 17/315, 0, 62/2835, 0, 1382/155925, 0, 21844/6081075, 0, 929569/638512875, 0, ...} = A002430/A036279

instead of

 • 0, 1, 0, 1/3, 0, 2/15, 0, 17/315, 0, 62/2835, 0, 1382/155925, 0, 21844/6081075, 0, 929569/638512875, 0, ... = A002430/A036279

Sounds like a good idea! - Neil

If you confirm that you still like the idea, I'll do it now! (A year goes really fast...) — Daniel Forgues 04:31, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

I won't do it then (unless you ask me to), since you asked me to not do ANY change to Index to fractions in OEIS. — Daniel Forgues 06:25, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

Index to fractions in OEIS/Table

Index to fractions in OEIS/Table gives a nice table presentation, although it doesn't work anymore (since the revert) because the header and footer must not be transcluded. May I put back the header and footer within <noinclude>...</noinclude> so that only the data part gets transcluded in Index to fractions in OEIS/Table? (Do you need to transclude the header and footer in some other page?) Have you seen the autogenerated table presentation? Is it a good idea? — Daniel Forgues 02:01, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

I had to do many tests (on a section of the data) to get the autogenerated table Index to fractions in OEIS/Table to work perfectly. I was very careful with the data in Index to fractions in OEIS.

One of the typo fix-ups I had done (before the revert) was:

A073833/A07383

to

A073833/A073834

I would prefer to leave the Index to Fractions as it is now (except of course for the addition of new entries). For several reasons, which I won't take the space to explain here. N. J. A. Sloane, May 30 2013

I'm guessing that if too many people look at Index to fractions in OEIS/Table it might slow down the server, because the table is dynamically generated from Index to fractions in OEIS using string parser functions...

Should we keep the page Index to fractions in OEIS/Table then? — Daniel Forgues 22:18, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

No, I don't think so!

N. J. A. Sloane, May 30 2013

I thought you might like the table presentation... I do not have the permissions to delete a page. All I could do is blank the page, but then it would say that I blanked the page in the history of Index to fractions in OEIS/Table (blanking pages is not a good thing for someone who is not an associate-editor or editor-in-chief... so I'd rather not do it myself) — Daniel Forgues 23:19, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

OK, I deleted the page. It didn't look that much different from what I had. Neil

The main idea was to have the A-numbers aligned to the right, plus some little presentations tweaks, e.g. braces wrapping the sequences. — Daniel Forgues 04:57, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

Sequence names

What about having the names of sequences of fractions either

 • in italic
 • in bold
 • in a different color, e.g. purple
 • ...

to make them stand out more? — Daniel Forgues 07:22, 4 June 2013 (UTC)

Also, is it OK if I make links to the wiki from the sequence names? — Daniel Forgues 04:31, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

Given that the fraction index is a large flat file, with no internal markers, that would be hard to do. Right now I don't want to add any internal markers, because the index is still in transition. Once it has grown to thousand or so entries, then it will be time to put in some more subsection headings. For the moment, let's wait.

What I meant was to have ([[Bernoulli numbers]] B_{2n}) instead of (Bernoulli numbers B_{2n}), e.g.
1, 1/6, -1/30, 1/42, -1/30, 5/66, -691/2730, 7/6, -3617/510, 43867/798, -174611/330, ... = A000367/A002445 (Bernoulli numbers B_{2n})
Daniel Forgues 23:22, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

I would rather you didn't make ANY changes to this Index until it is finished. Think of it as a building with an "Under Construction" sign outside!

≤ instead of <=, ≥ instead of >=

We can use [HTML character entity] ≤ to get ≤, ≥ to get ≥, e.g.

"First nontrivial term ≤ 1/3" instead of "First nontrivial term <= 1/3"

Should I make the edit? — Daniel Forgues 23:11, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

I would rather you didn't make ANY changes to this Index until it is finished. Think of it as a building with an "Under Construction" sign outside!

We have a {{under construction}} template that shows a banner, if you want to use it. — Daniel Forgues 02:55, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

Well, no, I don't want that, because I'm hoping other people will add more entries. I just don't want you to keep proposing changes to the format (sorry, but you forced me into being impolite). Neil Sloane
