In 1972, the Yankees retired number 8 in honor of the Bill Dickey and Yogi Berra.
Jackie Robinson played with the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1947 to 1956. His number, 42, was retired for all Major League Baseball teams in 1997. But Mariano Rivera, who had been playing with the Yankees since 1990, was allowed to keep wearing 42, which was then retired again for him in 2013.
