David Rideout received his Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics from Syracuse University in 2001. Since then he has held research positions at the Max Planck Institute in Germany, Imperial College London, the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, and the University of California San Diego.

His research has centered upon combinatoric representations of quantum gravity. He is a pioneer of the field of 'numerical quantum gravity', using large scale machine computation to address problems in discrete quantum gravity.

More recently he has been applying insight from machine computation for discrete quantum gravity towards more general problems in machine learning and artificial intelligence.
