Irene Anne Stegun

Irene Anne Stegun (born in Yonkers, New York, 1919[1] - ???died in 2008???) American mathematician, lead editor of the Handbook of Mathematical Functions, with Formulas, Graphs and Mathematical Tables. She was Assistant Chief of the Computation Laboratory when in July 1958, Milton Abramowitz, who had started the project, had a heart attack and died.[2] Stegun completed the project, and the Handbook went on to become one of the most cited reference works in mathematical and scientific applications,[3] and is often referred to as "Abramowitz & Stegun."
