I am an Associate Professor [UK equivalent: Reader; US equivalent: Full Professor; D equivalent: C3] at Western Sydney University (http://www.westernsydney.edu.au/staff_profiles/uws_profiles/doctor_volker_gebhardt). My main research interests lie in various areas of algebra and discrete mathematics; and I am especially interested in questions with an algorithmic or computational flavour.

I completed my PhD in 1999 at the University of Essen, then spent four years as a post-doctoral researcher with the Computational Algebra group at the University of Sydney, working on the computer algebra system Magma (http://magma.maths.usyd.edu.au/magma). I have been at Western Sydney University (formerly University of Western Sydney) since 2003; the first year teaching computing units as a casual staff member, since 2004 as a permanent staff member with the mathematics and statistics group.

I am a founding member of the Centre for Reseach in Mathematics at Western Sydney University.
