I grew up in Buffalo, NY, where I studied math at Millard Fillmore College. I worked a couple years at Bell Labs, Whippany, to avoid the draft. I practiced poverty law in the Southern Tier of NY for several years. I began on Wall Street at a boutique brokerage that later went bankrupt on Black Monday. Its partners were imprisoned for tax fraud. I then worked as a research analyst at Merrill Lynch. At Salomon Brothers and its successors I worked on models for Mortgage-Backed Securities, leaving just before the MBS debacle. I have been working on a monograph on polyomino enumeration for several years. Some of my results appear from time to time in the OEIS.
