  • November 8, 1656 Edmond Halley is born in Haggerston, Shoreditch (going by the Gregorian calendar, which was not yet in use in England).
  • November 8, 1719 Michael Rolle dies in Paris.
  • November 8, 1882 Thomas Jan Stieltjes begins a correspondence of more than 400 letters with Charles Hermite that will last for more than a decade. The first letter was about celestial mechanics, but the vast majority of the letters were about mathematics.
