November 8, 1656 Edmond Halley is born in Haggerston, Shoreditch (going by the Gregorian calendar, which was not yet in use in England).
November 8, 1719 Michael Rolle dies in Paris.
November 8, 1882 Thomas Jan Stieltjes begins a correspondence of more than 400 letters with Charles Hermite that will last for more than a decade. The first letter was about celestial mechanics, but the vast majority of the letters were about mathematics.
