  • January 25, 1915 Gaston Julia and his men succeed in driving back a German attack, but he is struck by a bullet in the middle of his face, which will later cause him to wear a leather strap on his face for the rest of his life.
  • January 25, 2013 Curtis Cooper discovers what could be the 48th Mersenne prime, 2 57885161 – 1. A few days later GIMPS will confirm that this is indeed a prime number, but its index in A000043 won't be ascertained for quite some time.
