A084989: Number of 4-year terms served by Presidents of the U.S.A.

{ 2, 1, 2, 2, 2, 1, 2, ... }

When the United States declared their independence from the King of England 248 years ago today, there was great reluctance to give central power to one man, and indeed today the officeholder of President of the United States is sometimes referred to as "the most powerful man on Earth." It was not until 1789 that George Washington was elected the very first American president. This particular sequence so far consists almost entirely of 1s and 2s, with the only 4 corresponding to what could have been Franklin D. Roosevelt's 16-year term.
