Not to be confused with multiplicative arithmetic functions, a term used in number theory which involves coprimality.


In algebra, a multiplicative function (or multiplicative map) is a function that preserves the multiplication operation, i.e.

f(xy)=f(x)f(y),

for any two elements x and y in the domain.
