Italian mathematician best known for the Fibonacci numbers. Those he introduced almost casually in his Liber abaci, a book that was in its time a treasure trove of mathematical knowledge, covering topics ranging from the basics of arithmetic to problems with practical applications, problems from the Far East, like the Chinese remainder theorem, and abstract problems like the search for perfect numbers.
