Annual Appeal: Please make a donation to keep the OEIS running. In 2018 we replaced the server with a faster one, added 20000 new sequences, and reached 7000 citations (often saying "discovered thanks to the OEIS"). Other ways to donate

%N Standard Gematria values of the 28 Hebrew letters of Genesis 1:1.

%C Number values for the Hebrew letters are shown in A051596 and are applied to the letters of Genesis 1:1 establishing the sequence above.

%C The sum of the number values for the 28 letters is 2701, the 73rd triangular number, A000217. 2701 can be expressed as the sum of two squares: 26^2 + 45^2.

%C 2701 is the product of the prime star numbers 37 and 73, i.e., A003154(3)*A003154(4).

%C The Hebrew gematria for the word "wisdom" (Hebrew: "hokmah") has an ordinal value of 37 and a standard value of 73.

%C The 28 letters of Genesis 1:1 are grouped according to seven Hebrew words, the values are 913, 203, 86, 401, 395, 407, 296 (= 2701).

%C Alternating subtraction and addition applied to the seven groupings = 913-203+86-401+395-407+296 = 679, the seventh stellated octahedron, A007588. Slicing the 679 stellated octahedron in half reveals a hexagon of 37 within a star of 73 counters, 37*73 = 2701.

%C The first five words combined (the sum of the first 21 terms) is 2*999. The 1st and 3rd words combine to make 999. The 3rd, 5th, and 7th total 777; the 3rd, 5th, and 6th total 888, cf. A177769. The sum of the 28 terms equals 777+888+999+37 = 2701.

%C 2701 as a figurate triangle corresponds to a Sierpinski triangle of 1177 counters (or vertices), see a(72) in A233774.

%C This sequence is similar to the first 28 terms of A195742. The 14th, 21st, and 28th terms are different. A195742 uses an alternate gematria containing higher letter values for five of the Hebrew letter forms that are changed when they appear at the end of a word (this allows for an alternate and higher value to be applied, called "sofit" values). A195742 has applied this alternate higher value called "large gematria," thus the title of A195742 is incorrect. The sequence above is the "standard gematria," it does not apply sofit values (standard values are maintained throughout the sequence).
