Herbert William Conn (c. 1921 – Feb 1, 2012)
Herbert William Conn, 91, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012. A math enthusiast of long standing, and a legendary rock climber. He lived most of his life in Custer, South Dakota, in the "ConnCave", without electricity or running water.
There are classic rock climbs all over the US with his name on them, some of which I have climbed myself, especially at Seneca Rocks, WV and the Needles, SD. We never met, but we corresponded by letter for many years. His letters were typed. Mine were handwritten. To see his contributions, search for "Herb Conn" in the OEIS. I only heard of his death today. Here is one obituary: Jewel Cave pioneer Herb Conn dies.
