The present anthem of the Czech Republic coincides with the first stanza of an opera song written in 1834. It used to be the first stanza of the combined Czech and Slovak anthem of the former Czechoslovakia. However, it was always perceived as the national anthem of the Czech people, regardless of how they are administered.
