Template talk:Sequence of the Day/today
From OeisWiki
What is the purpose of this template? — Daniel Forgues 23:31, 6 June 2011 (UTC)
- The purpose is to show today's SotD if it exists, and otherwise a placeholder.
- It did not work today, the placeholder July 4 pointed to an odd A789654. I've replaced that by A123456 on Sequence of the Day for July 4. The new placeholder is February 29, because that date is more obviously a dummy.
- I had to fix the syntax
{{#ifexist:Template:Sequence of the Day for {{CURRENTMONTHNAME}} {{CURRENTDAY}}|yes|no}}
: Okay now, see Making the "Main Page" more attractive for the original idea in April. - At some point in time the template should ignore any existing SotD templates when they are not approved: TBD.

February 30
A123456: Ludwig van Beethoven, Bagatelle No. 25, "Für Elise".
- { −20, 56, 55, 56, 55, 56, 51, … }
At David Applegate's suggestion, 20 has been subtracted from each entry to make this sound better with the default settings used by the OEIS Midi player. See A144488 for the old version.
- Testing the effect of the third default date after July 4 and February 29. –Frank Ellermann 08:32, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
{{LOCALMONTHNAME}} and {{LOCALDAY}}
On mediawikiwiki:Help:Magic words#Date and time it says
- The following variables do the same as the above, but using the site's server config or $wgLocaltimezone. (e.g. {{LOCALDAY}}, ...)
but on Template:Sequence of the Day/today documentation you say
- {{LOCALMONTHNAME}} and {{LOCALDAY}} depending on the timezone in the user preferences
So, is it the time zone of the OEIS Wiki server or the time zone of the user preferences? — Daniel Forgues 02:30, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
- Server time would be boring, test with 00:50 vs. 20:50, ugh, I get a difference, and my preference is GMT. Local is apparently EDT now. Template usage note fixed. –Frank Ellermann 09:54, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
