I am a member of the Theoretical Physics group at Imperial College and also particpate in the Complexity and Networks programme. I did my first degree in Natural Sciences (Physics) at Cambridge followed by a PhD at Imperial College London, supervised by Ray Rivers. I then spent time as a researcher at the University of Alberta in Edmonton Canada, followed by research positions back here at Imperial, in part as a Royal Society University Research Fellow.
My main interest is in the behaviour of systems both in and out of equilibrium. Originally this was in the context of relativistic particle physics, a topic known as Thermal Field Theory or Finite Temperature Field Theory, and its applications to cosmology and quark gluon plasmas. One combinatorical offshoot of this work led me to register Sloane sequence A034997 in 1995. I later became interested in parallel problems in condensed matter physics, where lab based experiments can be performed. More recently I have looked at related problems in complex systems, and the properties of Complex Networks in particular, six degrees of separation and related ideas. This is both from a theoretical perspective and in terms of applications to problems in social sciences such as Cultural Transmission in general or for Archaeology, part of an interest in sociophysics in general.
I'm also interested in Quantum Field theory in general. This has included work on multiplicative anomalies and in turn their implications for zeta-function renormalisation in general.
